Our client is a well-established, PE-backed business operating at the intersection of compliance, regulation, and technology. With over 1,000 clients worldwide, including leading banks, fund managers, asset managers, and corporates, they deliver subscription-based intelligence tools that help in-house legal and compliance teams navigate complex, multi-jurisdictional regulatory requirements quickly and cost-effectively.

Following a period of significant investment and strategic growth, the business is now accelerating its presence in the Americas and is looking for an experienced commercial leader to spearhead that expansion. This is a genuinely exciting mandate: territories are largely unclaimed, the product has a strong reputation in the market, and the incoming Head of Business Development will have real latitude to shape how the business operates in the region.

Location: East Coast US, commutable to New York | Salary: $150,000 - $170,000 base + uncapped commission 

THE HEAD OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, AMERICAS ROLE:

This is a player-coach position reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer. You will carry your own quota while building and developing a small but growing team across London and the US. The focus is 100% commercial: new logo acquisition, cross-sell and upsell into existing accounts, and building a sustainable pipeline within the financial services sector.

The product is not self-serve. Every sale requires genuine engagement, and the buyers, in-house General Counsel, Heads of Compliance, and legal teams at sophisticated financial institutions, are discerning. This role demands a consultative approach, credibility in the market, and the confidence to say "I don't know" and come back with the right answer.

AS HEAD OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, AMERICAS, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Driving personal new business performance across the Americas region, targeting hedge funds, asset managers, investment banks, and corporates

  • Building and executing a regional go-to-market strategy in partnership with the CCO

  • Leading, coaching, and developing a team of business development professionals, with further headcount planned

  • Managing cross-sell and upsell opportunities within the existing client base alongside new logo acquisition

  • Representing the business at industry conferences and events across the region, approximately once per month

  • Collaborating cross-functionally with marketing, product, and content teams to support commercial activity

  • Monitoring team performance against KPIs and revenue targets, providing structured mentorship and development


THE IDEAL HEAD OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, AMERICAS WILL HAVE:

  • A proven track record in B2B sales with a clear new business focus, ideally within financial services, compliance, or subscription-based data and intelligence products

  • Experience selling to sophisticated buyers such as in-house legal teams, General Counsel, Heads of Compliance, fund managers, or investment banks

  • Line management or mentoring experience, with the ambition and readiness to step into a formal leadership role

  • A consultative, relationship-led sales style and the gravitas to engage credibly with senior, highly discerning clients

  • Comfort operating in a scaling, entrepreneurial environment with a collaborative and low-ego working culture

  • Commutability to New York, with the flexibility to be office-based approximately three days per week as the team grows
